How we help
Ongoing Support, Care, Awareness And Research
At OSCAR’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity, our mission involves supporting children and families affected by childhood brain tumours at every point on their journey.
Support & Care: We tailor the help we give to families dependent on their needs providing mental, physical, emotional and financial support
Awareness: We work with different groups to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of this dreadful disease to try and achieve earlier and faster diagnosis.
Research: We look to fund new and innovative research projects that can help at different points along the paediatric brain tumour pathway.
Through our combined approach of support, awareness, and research, we’re making strides towards a brighter future. You can work together with us to create a world where paediatric brain tumours are better understood and children receive the care they truly deserve.
Support & Care
Family Support Scheme: We fund varied support, such as physiotherapy sessions and mental health sessions. We aim to tailor our provision to your needs
Support Network: We’re here to be a constant pillar of strength. We provide a safe space to share experiences, challenges, and triumphs. We understand the emotional journey and families find solace in knowing they’re not alone.
Information Pages: Our extensive information pages help guide families through complex decisions related to diagnosis, treatment and beyond. We’re here to ensure that every family is equipped with the information they need to make the best choices for their child.
School Support: Advice, resources and just being there for staff and pupils at schools affected by childhood brain tumours.
Personalised Guidance: Our experienced team offers personalised guidance, talking through complex decisions related to treatment, education, and emotional well-being. We’re here to ensure that every family is equipped with the information they need to make the best choices for their child.
Connecting Families: We foster connections by bringing families in similar situations together. This shared understanding creates a strong support system where experiences are shared, advice is given, and bonds are formed.
Booster Boxes: Our thoughtfully-chosen individualised Booster Boxes are available for children affected and their siblings. Filled with goodies, these boxes provide a little cheer during challenging times.
We Are Here For You
AWARENESS
Raising Awareness: We’re passionate about spreading awareness. Our efforts extend to schools, colleges, and businesses, where we engage in assemblies and workshops. By working closely with such places, we ensure that paediatric brain tumours are understood, recognised, and acknowledged by the people they could affect.
Signs and Symptoms: We’re reaching out to schools, parents, and communities to provide easily accessible knowledge that helps individuals to identify signs and symptoms to aid early diagnosis.
Collaboration with Other Charities: Our mission is bolstered by collaboration. We work hand in hand with other brain tumour and childhood cancer charities, pooling resources and expertise to maximise our collective impact. Together, we’re a formidable force for change.
The Statistics Are Astounding
Research
We want to improve every part of the experience for children with brain tumours at whatever stage they are at.
We look to fund research that can reduce diagnosis time, lead to kinder treatments and improve the lives of survivors.
Our commitment extends to driving forward-looking research initiatives. By partnering with leading institutions, we’re advancing scientific understanding and exploring innovative treatment options for paediatric brain tumours. Our support extends to critical projects like the Leeds Neuropathology Tissue Bank, supplying tissue for a number of brain tumour research projects.
